Rogain Approved FDA Hair Loss Treatment

Out of the many hair loss treatments on the market today, Rogain is one of the only two drugs approved by the FDA and the other being Propecia. How much do you know about Rogain? Rogain's active ingredient is minoxidil, which was originally created as a drug for treating high blood pressure. It was then discovered that one of its side affects was growing hair. Minoxidil was then tested for use as a topical application for regrowing hair. The results were sufficiently impressive that the FDA approved it as a treatment for hair loss.

How does Rogain work? It works by revitalizing shrunken hair follicles. What does that mean? It means that when you use Rogaine every day, your follicles may increase in size, and the growing phase may become longer. This may then produce longer, thicker hairs. Rogain is said to increase the blood flow to the areas of the scalp that surround areas with hair loss. Some researchers believe that Rogain works by opening the follicle’s potassium channels located in the cells. There are some limitations to Rogain. For one, it does not help those who have completely bald scalps or balding in the frontal hairline areas. It has been found to be quite effective in maintaining or growing hair in the top back of the head. Rogain is also said to be more effective in women than in men.

Is Rogain an expensive treatment? No, in fact, Rogain is quite affordable compared to other treatments that claim to help with hairloss. The cost of using Rogain for a month is approx $20-$30.
